Join us for the first of a series of new actions by Japanese artist Koki Tanaka: a local history tour of The Showroom’s neighbourhood. This marks the start of the artist’s new commission Provisional Studies: Action #5 Conceiving the Past, Perceiving the Present opening at The Showroom on 28 April 2016.
Working with collaborative processes, Tanaka’s project for The Showroom departs from his curiosity about the histories of the gallery's locale, Church Street. This tour, led by Tanaka, will go beyond the history books, bringing together shared histories from people living and working around Church Street.
This event is part of Koki Tanaka's commission for the third and final round of annual How to work together commissions.
How to work together is a shared programme of contemporary art commissioning and research organised by The Showroom, Chisenhale Gallery and Studio Voltaire, and is supported by a capacity building and match-funding grant from Arts Council England through Catalyst Arts, with additional funding from Bloomberg and Jerwood Charitable Foundation. With additional funding in 2016 from Cockayne – Grants for the Arts and The London Community Foundation.
Tanaka’s commission is also supported by Vitamin Creative Space, The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation and the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
